Xcimer Energy leverages decades of research on Inertial Fusion Energy (IFE) combined with groundbreaking new laser architecture. Our mission is to deploy fusion power plants to meet global decarbonization goals as fast as possible. Xcimer has assembled a team of leaders in tough tech, fusion science, and manufacturing with a track record of rapid execution. Supported by leading investors, Xcimer is uniquely positioned to deliver limitless, clean, fusion power to combat climate change. Join us in powering a better world with inertial fusion!
As a Kinetic Physicist, you will independently lead a project that combines experimental work—designing and conducting advanced spectroscopic experiments—with in-depth simulation studies to investigate the kinetics of electron-beam-pumped excimer lasers. A key aspect of your role will be developing and refining simulation codes to model the complex physical processes involved in energy transfer within atomic and molecular gas mixtures. This understanding is critical for optimizing laser performance and advancing the field. In addition to managing and executing experiments, you will collaborate closely with both experimentalists and theorists, contributing innovative solutions. Your findings will be shared through research papers and technical reports, advancing scientific knowledge in this area.
We are looking for our scientists and engineers to apply their technical expertise, problem solving skills, and dedication to quality to positively impact the future of energy!
Responsibilities
- Design, plan, run, and oversee the execution of spectroscopic experiments, ensuring the precise acquisition and thorough analysis of experimental data.
- Conduct comprehensive literature reviews and interact with members of the scientific community to deepen understanding of relevant topics and develop simulations informed by these insights.
- Perform kinetic simulations of excited state energy transfer processes in atomic and molecular gases.
- Collaborate with engineers, providing clear instructions and technical guidance to facilitate the construction of experimental setups.
- Continuously acquire knowledge on emerging topics and integrate this new information to enhance task execution efficiency.
Qualifications
- MS degree in physics, electrical engineering, chemistry, or a related field.
- 3+ years of professional experience in the fields of optical spectroscopy, gas kinetics, and/or data processing
- Understanding of excited-state energy transfer processes in atomic and molecular gases.
- Experience in kinetic modeling and simulations.
- Independent troubleshooting and solving non-trivial technical problems.
- Advanced analytical skills and ability to perform scientific literature search.
- Experience working with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee of granted asylum.
Desired
- PhD in physics, electrical engineering, chemistry, or a related field.
- Experience with electron beam sources.
- Experience with high power pulsed microwave sources.
- Experience with vacuum systems.
- Experience in writing scientific papers and grant proposals.
- Experience in operating and aligning pulsed lasers.
- Experience in Matlab/Python/LabVIEW.
- Experience in FTIR, mass spectroscopy.
