About Vaulted
Vaulted is an emerging leader in permanent carbon removal. As a Biomass Carbon Removal and Storage (BiCRS) solution, Vaulted delivers permanent, high quality carbon removal at scale through the geologic sequestration of carbon-filled organic waste.
Vaulted’s approach is designed to be the lowest cost, gigaton scale, permanent carbon removal. We sequester sludgy organic wastes (biosolids, manure, agricultural, food waste, paper sludge, etc.) that today are sent to a landfill, dumped into an ocean/river, land applied, or otherwise left to decompose, releasing Green House Gases (GHGs) into the atmosphere. Vaulted leverages a suite of patented, mature, geologic slurry sequestration technologies which allow us to sequester organic waste with minimal processing. We inject deep under the earth’s surface, where the carbon is permanently trapped under a layer of impermeable rock - the same formations that have kept hydrocarbons underground for millions of years. We have two permitted, operational, facilities allowing us to reach near-term meaningful scale.
Our carbon removal approach goes beyond vaulting carbon. It inherently improves local environmental and human health. In doing so, our operations redress historically unjust waste management practices and advance environmental justice.
Vaulted is backed by leading carbon removal and climate investors, including Lowercarbon Capital, Earthshot Ventures, and WovenEarth Ventures.
About the Role
At Vaulted, we are committed to an ambitious expansion strategy that includes the development of new sites and precise verification of credit generation within our operations. The rate of our expansion and the scalability of our Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) initiatives hinge crucially on our capacity to establish new injection sites across diverse geographical regions and to authenticate the credits generated by our existing operations.
The Subsurface Data Management Lead will play a key role in this effort, ensuring that our data systems are structured, reliable, and seamlessly integrated across our operations.
This role is responsible for designing and maintaining data management frameworks that enable our teams to operate with precision, efficiency, and confidence. By overseeing data organization, quality assurance, and integration—particularly with ArcGIS and other geospatial tools—this position ensures that our site development strategies processes are data-driven and scalable.
We are looking for a highly motivated individual who thrives in fast-paced environments and is eager to build and optimize data infrastructure for a growing climate tech company. You will work closely with subsurface, engineering, and project development teams, managing critical geospatial and operational datasets that inform decision-making and accelerate deployment.
The responsibilities of this role include (but are not limited to):
- Developing and managing Vaulted’s subsurface data systems, ensuring seamless integration with existing tools and platforms.
- Leading data quality assurance, establishing rigorous standards for validation, accuracy, and consistency across multiple datasets.
- Managing and resolving data queries from internal teams and external stakeholders, providing strategic insights that support site expansion and CDR credit verification.
- Maintaining and optimizing GIS and geospatial databases, particularly ArcGIS, to support mapping and site evaluation efforts.
- Generating reports and visualizations, translating complex data into actionable insights for internal and external audiences.
- Supporting cross-functional teams by providing access to high-quality, well-organized data that informs strategic decision-making and enhances project execution.
This is a unique opportunity to shape the data infrastructure behind a highly scalable and impactful carbon removal solution. Your work will directly drive climate impact by ensuring that our expansion is both strategic and scientifically robust.
What You Will Bring
The Subsurface Data Management Lead will need to be highly adaptable, resourceful, and mission-driven, with the ability to manage complex data challenges in a fast-moving environment. Above all, we are looking for someone with a sense of urgency and ownership, ready to build the data backbone of a rapidly scaling carbon removal company.
The ideal candidate will have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Data Science, Geoinformatics, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Proven experience in data management, analysis, and GIS, preferably in environmental, geospatial, or sustainability-focused projects.
- Deep expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), particularly ArcGIS, including database management and spatial analysis.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work with large, complex datasets in a structured, organized manner.
- An analytical mindset, with the ability to extract meaningful insights from geospatial and operational data.
- Proficiency in data visualization tools such as Power BI, with the ability to create interactive dashboards and reports that communicate key insights.
- Experience with Python for data processing and automation is a plus, particularly in managing and analyzing large geospatial datasets.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical data insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
If you are a data-driven problem solver eager to apply your expertise to scaling gigaton-level carbon removal, we encourage you to apply. Join us in vaulting carbon permanently underground and creating a more sustainable future.
