A well-established manufacturing organization is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to serve as the primary electrical authority for its facility. This newly created leadership role was established as part of a departmental restructuring and offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on plant operations, reliability, and future capital projects.

The Electrical Engineer will provide technical leadership, oversee electrical systems and upgrades, support capital projects, and lead a team responsible for maintaining and improving complex manufacturing equipment and infrastructure. This position combines hands-on technical work with engineering leadership and project management responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead electrical expert and technical resource for the engineering and maintenance teams.
  • Provide electrical support for capital projects, equipment installations, upgrades, repairs, and modifications.
  • Manage and mentor an Electrical Supervisor and Controls Engineer while supporting a team of union electricians.
  • Program, modify, troubleshoot, and optimize Allen Bradley PLC systems.
  • Troubleshoot and support VFDs, motor controls, MCCs, control panels, and automated manufacturing systems.
  • Review and develop electrical schematics, drawings, and documentation using AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Coordinate and manage electrical contractors, vendors, and outside service providers.
  • Develop and oversee preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, NEC, GMP, and facility electrical safety standards.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, efficiency, and equipment performance.
  • Travel occasionally to a nearby sister facility as needed.

Qualifications

Required

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 10+ years of industrial electrical engineering experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous leadership or management experience overseeing technical personnel.
  • Strong Allen Bradley PLC experience, including programming from scratch, modifications, and troubleshooting.
  • Extensive experience with VFDs, motor controls, and industrial electrical systems.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Experience supporting new equipment installations, legacy equipment upgrades, repairs, and modifications.
  • Strong understanding of electrical safety practices and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to work a 6:30 AM - 4:00 PM schedule with occasional Saturday support.

Preferred

  • Experience with 13.8kV and other high-voltage electrical systems.
  • 480V power distribution experience.
  • Experience with MCCs, SCADA systems, and industrial control panels.
  • Familiarity with NEC, NFPA 70, and Chicago Electrical Code.
  • Food, pharmaceutical, or other regulated manufacturing experience.
  • Knowledge of FDA and SQF requirements.
