Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Writer to support the development of comprehensive documentation for complex power generation equipment consisting of 700+ components per system. This role will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and service teams to translate highly technical information into clear, accurate, and user-friendly documentation.
This position is ideal for someone with a strong engineering foundation who can bridge the gap between design intent and end-user understanding.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, write, and maintain technical documentation including:
- Operation & maintenance manuals
- Assembly and installation guides
- Service and troubleshooting documentation
- Parts catalogs and bills of materials (BOMs)
- Collaborate with engineering teams to understand system design, functionality, and updates
- Interpret complex engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications
- Translate technical data into clear instructions for technicians, operators, and customers
- Standardize documentation formats, terminology, and processes across product lines
- Work with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality, and field service to ensure accuracy and usability
- Support product launches with complete and accurate documentation packages
- Manage document revisions and version control
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field strongly preferred)
- 3+ years of experience in technical writing within a manufacturing or engineering environment
- Experience with complex mechanical or electro-mechanical systems (highly preferred)
- Strong ability to read and interpret:
- CAD drawings
- Electrical schematics
- P&IDs
- Proficiency with technical documentation tools (e.g., MadCap Flare, Adobe FrameMaker, or similar)
- Excellent written communication skills with strong attention to detail
- Ability to simplify complex concepts for a variety of audiences
- Experience working in a cross-functional, fast-paced environment
Preferred Experience
- Background in power generation, heavy equipment, or industrial machinery
- Familiarity with ERP or PLM systems
- Experience developing illustrated parts manuals and service documentation
- Knowledge of industry standards (ISO, ANSI, or similar)
