Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Writer to support the development of comprehensive documentation for complex power generation equipment consisting of 700+ components per system. This role will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and service teams to translate highly technical information into clear, accurate, and user-friendly documentation.

This position is ideal for someone with a strong engineering foundation who can bridge the gap between design intent and end-user understanding.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, write, and maintain technical documentation including:
  • Operation & maintenance manuals
  • Assembly and installation guides
  • Service and troubleshooting documentation
  • Parts catalogs and bills of materials (BOMs)
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to understand system design, functionality, and updates
  • Interpret complex engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications
  • Translate technical data into clear instructions for technicians, operators, and customers
  • Standardize documentation formats, terminology, and processes across product lines
  • Work with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality, and field service to ensure accuracy and usability
  • Support product launches with complete and accurate documentation packages
  • Manage document revisions and version control
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field strongly preferred)
  • 3+ years of experience in technical writing within a manufacturing or engineering environment
  • Experience with complex mechanical or electro-mechanical systems (highly preferred)
  • Strong ability to read and interpret:
  • CAD drawings
  • Electrical schematics
  • P&IDs
  • Proficiency with technical documentation tools (e.g., MadCap Flare, Adobe FrameMaker, or similar)
  • Excellent written communication skills with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to simplify complex concepts for a variety of audiences
  • Experience working in a cross-functional, fast-paced environment

Preferred Experience

  • Background in power generation, heavy equipment, or industrial machinery
  • Familiarity with ERP or PLM systems
  • Experience developing illustrated parts manuals and service documentation
  • Knowledge of industry standards (ISO, ANSI, or similar)
