Plant Accountant

Aegis has partnered with a large manufacturing firm on the south side of Indianapolis who is looking to add a Plant Accountant to their team! This individual will be responsible for general ledger accounting, month-end close, forecasting, and reporting & analysis. This role will have responsibility over two plants in Indiana and Ohio.

Position Summary
The Plant Accountant is responsible for managing and analyzing financial activities within a manufacturing facility. This role supports plant leadership by providing accurate financial reporting, monitoring production costs, and identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency and profitability. The Plant Accountant works closely with operations, supply chain, and corporate finance teams to ensure accurate cost accounting and financial controls within the plant.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage plant-level accounting activities including cost accounting, inventory analysis, and financial reporting
- Monitor and analyze manufacturing costs including labor, materials, and overhead
- Prepare monthly financial reports, variance analysis, and performance summaries for plant leadership
- Partner with operations and production teams to understand cost drivers and identify opportunities for cost improvement
- Maintain and monitor standard costs for manufactured products
- Analyze production variances including labor, material usage, scrap, and overhead absorption
- Support month-end close processes including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Ensure accuracy of inventory transactions and conduct inventory reconciliations and cycle count analysis
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning for the plant
- Support internal and external audits and ensure compliance with company financial policies
- Track capital expenditures and support financial analysis for plant investments and equipment purchases
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably within a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Strong understanding of cost accounting and manufacturing financial processes
- Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for financial analysis and reporting
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate financial information effectively to non-financial plant leadership
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a manufacturing or production facility
- Knowledge of standard costing, inventory accounting, and variance analysis
- Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle ERP, or Microsoft Dynamics 365
- CPA or CMA certification preferred
