Electrical Design Engineer
Job Summary
The Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and supporting electrical systems used in industrial equipment and control panel applications. This role involves creating detailed electrical schematics, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams using AutoCAD or similar design software. The engineer collaborates with manufacturing, controls, and field service teams to ensure designs meet functional requirements, safety standards, and project timelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Design electrical control panels, power distribution systems, and machine wiring schematics.
- Develop electrical drawings using AutoCAD / AutoCAD Electrical including panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and single-line diagrams.
- Select electrical components such as PLCs, relays, breakers, power supplies, and motor controls.
- Create and maintain bill of materials (BOMs) and electrical documentation packages.
- Ensure designs comply with UL, NEC, and applicable electrical standards.
- Support panel fabrication and troubleshoot design issues during manufacturing or installation.
- Work with controls engineers to integrate PLC and HMI systems into electrical designs.
- Review and update drawings based on engineering changes or customer requirements.
- Assist with testing and commissioning of electrical systems when needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience designing industrial electrical systems or control panels.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical.
- Knowledge of PLC-based control systems and industrial automation.
- Understanding of NEC, UL508A, and electrical safety standards.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with panel layout design and wire routing.
- Familiarity with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar PLC platforms.
- Knowledge of motor controls, VFDs, sensors, and industrial networking.
- Experience supporting manufacturing or automation equipment.
