Position Summary

The Industrial Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading maintenance operations within a food manufacturing facility to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant production. This role oversees maintenance technicians, drives preventive and predictive maintenance programs, and ensures all equipment meets food safety, quality, and regulatory standards (FDA/USDA).

The ideal candidate has strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting experience in a food or beverage environment and understands the urgency of minimizing downtime while maintaining strict sanitation compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Supervise, coach, and develop a team of maintenance technicians across assigned shift(s)
  • Prioritize daily work orders and emergency repairs to minimize production downtime
  • Promote a strong food safety and employee safety culture
  • Ensure compliance with GMP, HACCP, SQF, and plant safety policies
  • Assist with hiring, training, performance evaluations, and corrective actions

Equipment & Reliability

  • Oversee troubleshooting and repair of food processing and packaging equipment
  • Maintain high-speed production lines, conveyors, fillers, mixers, ovens, chillers, and labeling systems
  • Support PLC troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley, Siemens preferred)
  • Ensure proper maintenance of utilities including ammonia refrigeration, compressed air, boilers, and water systems
  • Drive PM compliance and implement predictive maintenance strategies

Food Safety & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure maintenance practices align with FDA/USDA standards
  • Maintain equipment in sanitary condition to meet audit requirements (SQF/BRC/FSMA)
  • Support internal and external food safety audits
  • Coordinate corrective actions related to food safety or equipment failures
  • Ensure proper documentation for regulatory compliance

Continuous Improvement

  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for downtime and quality issues
  • Implement reliability improvements to reduce unplanned downtime
  • Track KPIs such as OEE, MTBF, PM completion rate, and downtime metrics
  • Collaborate with production and quality teams to improve efficiency

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Manage CMMS system for work order tracking and documentation
  • Assist in budgeting and cost control for maintenance operations
  • Coordinate contractors and outside service providers
  • Ensure spare parts inventory is properly maintained

Qualifications

Education

  • Associate’s degree in Industrial Maintenance, Electrical Technology, Mechanical Technology, or related field preferred
  • Equivalent hands-on experience considered

Experience

  • 5+ years of maintenance experience in a food or beverage manufacturing environment
  • 2+ years of supervisory or leadership experience preferred
  • Experience in USDA/FDA regulated facilities

Technical Skills

  • Mechanical systems (motors, pumps, gearboxes, conveyors)
  • Electrical troubleshooting (480V, motor controls, VFDs)
  • PLC troubleshooting and basic programming
  • Pneumatics and hydraulics
  • Refrigeration systems (ammonia experience preferred)
  • CMMS systems
  • Sanitary design principles

Work Environment
