Estimator / Sales Engineer

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically strong Estimator / Sales Engineer to join our manufacturing team. This role serves as a key liaison between customers, sales, and engineering by reviewing purchase orders, technical documentation, and specifications to accurately determine project scope and develop competitive quotations and proposals.

The ideal candidate has experience interpreting drawings and specifications, defining scope of work, pricing parts and equipment, and preparing professional proposals that align with customer requirements and company capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret customer purchase orders (POs) to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with quoted scope
  • Analyze technical documents, drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine scope of work
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to validate technical feasibility and manufacturing requirements
  • Develop detailed cost estimates for parts, equipment, labor, materials, and outsourced services
  • Prepare and deliver accurate and competitive quotations
  • Assemble comprehensive proposals, including scope descriptions, technical clarifications, pricing, and commercial terms
  • Identify risks, exclusions, and assumptions during the estimating process
  • Maintain clear documentation of estimates, revisions, and customer communications
  • Support sales efforts by participating in customer discussions and technical review meetings
  • Work cross-functionally with production, procurement, and quality teams to ensure alignment between proposal and execution
  • Track quote status and provide follow-up as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
  • 3+ years of experience in estimating, sales engineering, or technical sales within a manufacturing environment
  • Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications
  • Experience reviewing purchase orders and determining scope of work
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and cost structures
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with ERP systems and quoting software preferred
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
