About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to join our growing Software Engineering team. This role is primarily focused on building/maintaining the Infrastructure as Code (IaC) used in support of our back-end development, deployment and monitoring of Ruby on Rails services hosted on Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS), front-end development of Typescript React applications hosted on Amazon CloudFront with opportunities to contribute/shape the future of Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery at the company. You’ll work independently on development tasks while collaborating closely with teammates on planning, reviews, and decision-making. You will be expected to leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) tooling where it makes sense to enhance our team’s reliability and productivity, and not to reduce headcounts or produce vibe-coded features.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain IaC using Terraform to support application deployment and operations across AWS services (CodePipelines, EKS, RDS, ElastiCache, CloudFront)
  • Oversee and optimize EKS clusters, including configuration, scaling, monitoring, and troubleshooting for Ruby on Rails microservices
  • Collaborate with development teams to understand infrastructure needs and provide platform solutions that improve productivity
  • Participate in incident response and on-call rotation to maintain platform stability and uptime
  • Conduct code reviews for infrastructure changes and contribute to platform engineering best practices
  • Document platform architecture, runbooks, and procedures to support team knowledge sharing
  • Mentor team members on AWS services, Kubernetes (k8s), and infrastructure automation practices

Responsibility Timeline

  • Within ~1 week of joining our team, you will confidently be able to participate in code reviews and build with us on github
  • Within ~1 month of coming onboard, you will be able to explain how our deployments work end-to-end on Amazon Code Pipelines
  • Within ~6 months of joining Renew, you will be able to understand how our AWS hosted EKS, Redis, RDS clusters get updated/maintained
  • By the end of your first year, we expect you to be teaching us how and what we should be building/adjusting in AWS to support our customers for the foreseeable future

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 5+ years of professional experience in the world of Software Engineering

Required Skills

  • Strong experience with at least one programming language (we use ruby, typescript, python…)
  • Strong experience with at least one scripting language (we use zsh, bash)
  • Strong experience with Terraform, and IaC concepts/best-practices
  • Strong experience with Kubernetes (k8s)
  • Experience working in a microservices environment
  • Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with a remote team

Preferred Skills

  • Hands-on experience with AWS EKS
  • Terraform State management orchestrated using Terraform Cloud
  • Financial Services industry experience (consumer lending)
  • Use of agentic tooling in your local development environment to increase reliability and productivity

Pay range and compensation package

The salary range for this role is $165-185k annually. Final compensation will be determined based on the candidate’s experience, skills, and geographic market.

Work Environment

This is a fully remote position; team members are not expected to work from a corporate office on a regular basis. The role requires an environment suitable for virtual meetings and independent work.

Physical Requirements

This role is primarily sedentary, requiring extended periods of computer use. Regular activities include writing code, participating in virtual meetings, and collaborating via online tools. No unusual physical requirements are associated with this role.

Expected Hours of Work

Work hours are generally flexible; some coordination with team members in other time zones may be required.

Travel

Minimal travel is required for this position. Occasional in-person events or team gatherings may occur 1–2 times per year.
