QuantumScape developed the industry’s first anode-less cell design, which delivers high energy density while lowering material costs and simplifying manufacturing. Our innovative battery cell technology can store energy more efficiently and reliably than today’s lithium-ion batteries.

QuantumScape is seeking a Senior Electrical Controls Engineer and you will be responsible for aiding the design, build, test and ongoing support of custom automated equipment which is integral to the company’s success. You will work with team members across the company to determine the specifications and capabilities of the equipment. Your responsibilities will include design, analysis, programming, debugging, testing, and modification of controls systems with the goal of increasing capability, uptime, quality, and yield of the process. Significant experience in the design and implementation of automated manufacturing equipment is required to be successful in this position.

Requirements:

  • BS or higher degree in mechatronics, electrical engineering, computer science, or other engineering field.
  • At least six years of proven experience in equipment design, automation and integration from R&D to manufacturing environments.
  • Experience in the design of robotics systems and automated capital equipment. Experience with roll-to-roll processing equipment is highly desired.
  • Experience in the design and optimization of temperature-controlled equipment and furnaces.
  • Hands-on experience developing applications using servomotors, linear/rotary actuators, encoders, and sensors for measuring temperature, pressure, flow, and distance.
  • Experience designing electrical and control systems to meet electrical design standards, codes, and other requirements.
  • Proficiency designing electrical & power distribution systems using computer-aided design.
  • Experience supporting the installation and transitioning of early research and development prototypes into production-ready capital equipment.
  • Experience with supplier management and/or collaborating with remote engineering teams will be a plus.
  • Willingness to take on responsibilities outside of normal scope and take a collaborative approach to solving problems.
  • Excellent communication skills and a positive attitude required.
  • 5% travel required.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Maintain a high level of quality and keep active documentation during all phases of development and implementation
  • Strong PLC programming experience, Allen-Bradley and Beckhoff preferred.
  • Experienced designing industrial control panels using CAD, preferably AutoCAD Electrical
  • Experience in application development using IEC 61131-3 (Ladder logic and Structured text) - TwinCat 3, Studio 5000, or other IDEs. Proven ability to write well documented, organized, and maintainable code.
  • Experience in HMI development using Ignition, Studio 5000, or other tools. Proven ability to create well designed, visually intuitive displays and operator interfaces.
  • Strong working experience implementing and troubleshooting industrial networking and device communications, including Ethernet (TCP/IP), EtherCAT, Ethernet/IP, OPC UA, IO-Link, Modbus TCP, and Profinet.
  • Proficiency sizing and selecting appropriate hardware for automated equipment, including circuit protectors, wire and cabling, sensors, safety interlocks, PLCs, remote I/O, and servo systems.
  • A strong understanding of standards and codes for the design and implementation of electrical equipment, such as NFPA 79, NFPA 86, NEC 70, and UL 508a.
  • Experience designing and implementing control reliable safety systems and verifying them to relevant standards, such as ISO 13849, ISO 13850, ISO 60204, or Semi S2 and S8
  • Experience creating clear and concise electrical and control system documentation, including schematics, wiring diagrams, bills of materials, layouts, power and interlock diagrams.

Mid-point salary range for this role is $167,800.00. Final base compensation will be based on a candidate’s qualifications. QuantumScape also offers an annual bonus and a generous RSU/Equity package as part of its compensation plan.
