Natron Energy seeks a Cell Development Engineer with experience in cell-level design optimization and experimentation. As part of the Cell Engineering organization, the Engineer will drive product improvement through experimentation and modeling. A successful candidate is hard-working, team-oriented, and self-motivated to learn and grow.

Responsibilities:

  • Build first-order models to describe power, energy, and lifetime of Natron Energy’s sodium-ion cells and battery pack products
  • Synthesize electrode / raw material constraints, manufacturing constraints, and pack-level product requirements to make optimal cell design decisions supported by modeling and empirical evidence
  • Design and execute experiments around cell performance to test hypotheses, inform models, and understand failure mechanisms
  • Develop models to describe the electrochemical & thermal behavior of Natron Energy’s battery technology in a commercial simulation package (i.e. COMSOL) or a scientific programming language (i.e. Python)
  • Prepare, present, and release documentation to execute changes through a systematic & cross-functional release process

Qualifications:

  • B.S., or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Material Science or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years’ experience in electrochemical cell development, testing, and/or manufacturing
  • Demonstrable experience with designing & executing experiments, analyzing large datasets, and presenting conclusions with supporting evidence
  • Basic familiarity of statistical data analysis (JMP, Minitab), Regression, DOE, ANOVA, etc.
  • Mechanical design experience (Solidworks) is a plus
  • Experience with COMSOL, ANSYS, or a commercial simulation software is a plus
  • The successful candidate can be an early or mid-career professional; salary and title will match the candidate’s career experience

Logistics:

  • This is a regular, full time position.
  • Employee must work on-site in Santa Clara, CA.
  • Compensation is competitive with other Bay Area Battery Engineering positions.

Compensation/Pay Transparency:

  • In addition, Natron Energy has a strong benefits package including Medical, Dental, Vision, 401k Plan with Match, Life Insurance, Parental Leave Benefits, Discretionary Time Off (DTO) and Paid Time Off (PTO) for Exempt and Non-Exempt employees respectively, and 11 paid holidays.
  • The salary range for this position is a minimum of $88,500 and a maximum of $119,500.
