About the Role
Lightship’s mission to modernize and electrify RVs demands that we build a complex power system with robust software and flexible control. As a Software Engineer, you will define and develop embedded software that interacts with other components. You are scrappy and eager to be hands-on in a program’s early stages and willing to evolve as the program moves into production. You will work closely with the product and engineering teams and help hasten our path to market with an exceptional vehicle that redefines RVing.
Responsibilities
- Help develop Lightship’s ECU firmware
- Review code, analyze stability, and manage bugs
- Define communication interfaces and requirements
- Develop and execute a software test suite to ensure reliability
- Collaborate with team to define vehicle embedded systems architecture
- Collaborate with team to help select hardware for vehicle controls
- Optimize software by performing maintenance, updates, and upgrades
- Assess third party and open source software
- Keep up to date with relevant software standards and advancements in embedded system development
Minimum Qualifications
- BS or above in computer science, electrical/computer engineering, or related field
- Minimum 3 years experience developing software
- Proven experience in embedded systems software development, including preemptive, real-time architectures
- In-depth knowledge of CAN bus or similar communication protocol
- Proficiency coding in C/C++
- Understanding of microprocessors and associated peripherals
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of C compliant languages such as Java and Python
- Knowledge of Linux operating systems
- Experience deploying software across a variety of platforms
- Ability to read schematics and component data sheets
- You enjoy developing software and create value by solving problems
- You bring an entrepreneurial mindset to your work and are comfortable with uncertainty

- Lightship compensation consists of the yearly salary above plus equity, which gives you a stake in the company.
Onsite/Hybrid Work
Hybrid roles at Lightship require onsite work from our offices Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Tuesdays and Fridays are optional work from home days, when your work will be executed more successfully from home. Speak to the hiring manager to learn more.
