Koloma
Koloma is a geologic hydrogen company that leverages its technology, proprietary data, and human capital advantages to identify and commercialize these resources on a global scale. We are developing technologies that will enable the production of low cost, 24/7 available carbon-free hydrogen. Our team is led by seasoned energy executives and world-renowned technical thought leaders.
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Hydrogeologist to lead regional hydrogeological assessments. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in complex groundwater systems, groundwater monitoring design and analysis, regional groundwater flow modelling, hydrogeologic system modeling in extractive industry contexts.
This position involves both technical leadership and hands-on project execution, with opportunities to contribute to research at an industry-leading geologic hydrogen company.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and refine regional conceptual hydrogeologic frameworks in igneous and/or metamorphic systems and structurally complex terrains.
- Lead numerical groundwater flow and reactive transport modeling to simulate solute transport, water-rock interaction, and geochemical evolution over geological time scales.
- Integrate stratigraphic, structural, geochemical, and hydrologic datasets to characterize groundwater systems at the regional or basin scale.
- Assess formation water quality, hydrochemical facies, and salinity gradients to inform environmental baseline conditions and assess natural variability.
- Conduct forward and inverse modeling using tools such as GWB, PHREEQC, MODFLOW, TOUGHREACT, or CrunchFlow to study fluid behavior in deep subsurface environments.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including geochemists, structural geologists, other subsurface scientists, and data scientists.
- Experience interpreting and integrating multivariable data sets.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s or above in Geosciences, Hydrogeology, Geochemistry, subsurface system modeling, or a closely related field with specialization in basin hydrogeology or geochemical modeling.
- 10+ years of experience in applied hydrogeologic research, consulting, or academic roles with a focus on large-scale groundwater systems.
- Advanced proficiency in a.) conceptual and numerical hydrogeologic modeling; b.) reactive transport modeling using GWB, PHREEQC, TOUGHREACT, CrunchFlow, or equivalent platforms; c.) Interpreting complex hydrochemical datasets and geologic frameworks
- Experience working with multidisciplinary geoscience data including borehole logs, structural interpretations, groundwater chemistry, and geophysical data.
- Familiarity with geospatial and subsurface visualization tools (e.g., ArcGIS, MODFLOW, Petrel, or similar).
- Strong communication skills with a track record of scientific publication, oral presentation/training, research dissemination, and collaborative problem solving.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Geosciences, Hydrogeology, Geochemistry, subsurface system modeling, or a closely related field with specialization in basin hydrogeology or geochemical modeling.
- Experience working in multi-phase groundwater systems (e.g., gas/water interactions).
- Experience in knowledge dissemination.
Onboarding Notes
- Koloma provides exceptional benefits including healthcare, vision, and dental and a retirement plan
- This is an in-office role in Columbus, OH. Koloma supports flexible schedules where practical, but maintaining our strong culture, focus, and momentum requires team members to be in-office.
- Industry-competitive compensation with significant stock option upside.
