Description

The CAD Manager will lead our Mechanical and Electrical Design Group in the development of a geothermal power plant. This position will be instrumental in overseeing all aspects of CAD design, ensuring that workflows are optimized, drawings and models meet the highest quality standards, and the team operates efficiently within a multidisciplinary engineering environment. As a key leader in the design team, the CAD Manager will establish and enforce best practices, design standards, and project coordination strategies to enhance productivity and collaboration between mechanical, electrical, and other engineering disciplines. Additionally, the CAD Manager will play a crucial role in integrating innovative design solutions that support the unique demands of geothermal power generation, including high-temperature piping systems, electrical distribution layouts, plant equipment layouts, and substation design. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of power plant design principles, experience in renewable energy projects, and a passion for sustainability and cutting-edge engineering solutions. The CAD Manager will report to the Engineering Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Team Management: Lead, mentor, and oversee the Mechanical and Electrical Design Group, ensuring the team is equipped with the necessary tools, training, and support to produce high-quality CAD models and drawings. Foster a collaborative work environment by promoting open communication and knowledge sharing among team members.
  • Project Coordination & Workflow Optimization: Develop and implement efficient CAD workflows, ensuring seamless integration between mechanical and electrical design disciplines. Collaborate with project managers and engineering leads to establish priorities, allocate resources, and maintain adherence to project timelines and budgets.
  • Standardization & Quality Control: Establish and enforce CAD standards, templates, and best practices to maintain uniformity and accuracy across all design files. Conduct regular design reviews to verify that models and drawings adhere to company guidelines, industry standards, and project-specific requirements.
  • Software & Technology Management: Oversee the selection, implementation, and maintenance of CAD software and related technologies, ensuring the team has access to the latest tools for optimal performance. Provide guidance on software updates, licensing, and integration with other engineering systems such as BIM, PLM, or GIS platforms.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with civil, structural, and process engineering teams to ensure smooth coordination between mechanical and electrical design elements. Facilitate cross-functional discussions to resolve design conflicts and improve overall project efficiency.
  • Geothermal Power Plant Design Expertise: Ensure the CAD design process aligns with the unique requirements of geothermal power generation, including piping layouts, heat exchangers, turbines, electrical distribution, and substation design. Stay informed about industry advancements and integrate best practices into design methodologies.
  • Documentation & Data Management: Oversee proper file management, version control, and documentation processes within the CAD environment. Ensure that all design data is stored securely and is easily accessible for project stakeholders and future reference.
  • Training & Development: Organize training programs and professional development opportunities to enhance team members' technical skills and familiarity with the latest CAD tools and industry trends. Encourage continuous learning and innovation to improve overall team performance.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Drafting & Design Technology, Civil Engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferable in the energy or geothermal sector, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership or managerial role
  • Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics
  • Proficiency in industry-standard CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Revit) and simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, COSMOL)
  • Familiarity with mechanical systems in power plants or industrial facilities
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary environment; Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail; Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to travel to various field locations and Fervo office locations up to 25% of the time

Location

Fervo Energy is headquartered in Houston, TX with growing offices in Oakland, CA, Golden, CO, Reno, NV, and Salt Lake City, UT. This position will be eligible for some hybrid work flexibility, but regular in-office presence at the Houston or Reno offices will be required. Some travel is required for this position.

Compensation And Benefits

Fervo Energy is providing the compensation range and general description of other compensation and benefits that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and geographic location. Expected Salary: $115,000 - $160,000 based on Nevada locality, pay in other locations may vary.
