The Government Affairs Intern will play a crucial role in identifying and developing governmental partnerships to advance policy alignment between state and federal governments and the Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) industry. Their work will directly support Fervo’s efforts to accelerate the deployment of geothermal energy through legislative and regulatory action. Under the guidance of the government affairs and policy team, this internship position will be responsible for conducting policy research, assisting in stakeholder engagement, and developing educational materials to enhance awareness of geothermal energy. Through this work, the Government Affairs Intern will contribute to shaping policies that support the growth of the geothermal industry and the broader clean energy transition.

Responsibilities

• Monitoring and analysis of state-level energy policy and regulatory developments
• Work with Policy and Development teams to identify opportunities to advance geothermal energy through policy and regulatory initiatives
• Draft communication pieces for diverse audiences on the value and potential of geothermal energy
• Support development of legislative and regulatory policy proposals regarding utility resource procurement, transmission system planning, power plant siting and permitting and early-stage commercialization and financing

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing or a recent graduate of an undergraduate policy-related degree (energy technology-policy expertise is a plus)
• Demonstrated ability to analyze and communicate energy policy and utility regulatory concepts and their relevance to complex technological and commercial efforts
• Self-starter with a proactive attitude, capable of planning, pivoting, and executing tasks independently
• Professional adaptability to changing and occasionally ambiguous
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, along with strong organizational abilities and a passion for energy and innovation

Location

Fervo Energy is headquartered in Houston, TX. Other office locations include Oakland, Reno, Golden, and Salt Lake City. Regular in-office presence at the Oakland office will be required.
