Description

The Project Facilities Cost Engineer will support the development and construction of Fervo’s new geothermal projects. This critical role involves monitoring and analyzing the financial health of projects across Fervo’s portfolio. Collaborating with a cross-functional team, the Cost Engineer will oversee meticulous tracking and control of project costs, including budgeting, forecasting, and final reporting. They will work closely with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to provide accurate financial insights and support informed decision-making. Combining analytical skills, financial expertise, and construction project management knowledge, this role ensures project success by maintaining financial oversight and identifying cost-saving opportunities. This position will report to the Project Controls Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Financial Forecasting and Analysis: Use financial modeling to predict outcomes of project financial performance. Analyze variances between actual and budgeted or forecasted costs and recommend corrective actions
  • Budget Preparation and Management: Develop and maintain the project budget; forecast project costs based on historical data, market trends, and project specifics
  • Cost Monitoring and Reporting: Regularly monitor actual project expenditures against the budget and forecast future costs. Prepare detailed cost reports and financial summaries to present to project managers and senior management
  • Change Order Management: Evaluate the financial impact of changes in project scope, including additional work or alterations, and incorporate these into the project budget
  • Contract Management: Work closely with the procurement team to manage contracts, including reviewing bids, making recommendations, and ensuring contract compliance regarding project costs
  • Risk Analysis: Identify potential financial risks associated with project delays, cost overruns, and other issues. Develop and implement strategies to mitigate these risks
  • Collaboration with Project Teams: Work closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and other stakeholders to ensure cost objectives are met. Provide cost-related input and advice during project planning and execution phases
  • Process Improvement: Continually assess and improve cost control methods, tools, and processes to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of cost management
  • Briefing & Reporting: Provide and brief reports and presentations to executives and project teams on a regular basis.
  • Site Visits and Progress Assessment: Travel to project sites monthly as needed to attend project meetings, assess construction progress, and validate contractors’ project schedules

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in cost engineering, project controls or financial management within the construction, utilities, or related industry
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without employer-sponsored work authorization
  • Proficiency in cost management software and financial reporting tools
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite with emphasis on Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the project and program stakeholders and articulate key points to drive discussions and facilitate consensus
  • Ability to analyze financial data, interpret cost reports, and forecast expenses while identifying discrepancies and cost-saving opportunities
  • Proficiency in budgeting, accounting principles, and financial reporting
  • Familiarity with construction management and financial software for effective cost tracking and reporting
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for stakeholder engagement and report presentation
  • Skilled in identifying issues and implementing solutions, particularly for budget overruns or project challenges

Preferred Qualifications

  • Cost Engineering and/or Control experience with large capital projects in the Geothermal, Oil and Gas Exploration and Production, and/or Utility-Scale Power Industries
  • Experience in technical areas related to engineering and construction
  • Certified Cost Professional (CCP), Certified Construction Manager (CCM)
  • Experience with Oracle Primavera Scheduling Software, cost breakdown structures, and cost loading
  • Experience with estimating through various FEL levels
  • Experience with cost modeling software and or modules (e.g. Aspen Capital Cost Estimator)

Location

Fervo Energy is headquartered in Houston, TX. This position will be eligible for some hybrid work flexibility, but regular in-office presence at the Houston office will be required. Some travel is required for this position.
